So you want to know about Triple-R? Well read on...

First a little history. Triple-R consists of ME - Christopher Regan. I'm a 35 year old Engineer, married and father of 2 boys and girl - my future pit crew. I live in MD and am one if the infamous "beltway bandits" that traverse the Washington DC commuter hell. DC BTW has the 2nd worst traffic in the Nation, second only to LA! But enough of the pleasantries. I have been an RX-7 enthusiast since 1990. I purchased a 1988 convertible RX-7 as soon as I got my first job out of college. Now I must admit I bought the car for its looks but....soon learned what a fabulous car it was for more than just its looks! To this day I still think its one of the best looking convertibles ever produced.

Yes, that's me.

The car had wonderful handling and the smoothest revving engine I had ever experienced. Plus as an added bonus it had all the performance extras of the Turbo RX-7, except the motor of course (turbo convertibles were only sold in Japan and europe) These extras included 4 piston front calipers and rear disc brakes, thicker sway bars, stiffer springs, and 5 lug hubs, plus A/C, in dash CD player, power windows, one touch power top, cruise control, leather interior, power mirrors, BBS mesh wheels, and all of which was STANDARD on the convertible. BTW I also added to the already great

sound system, a Rockford Fosgate amplifier and a 10" sub, so needless to say this cars 9 speaker system was pretty damn good. After all was said and done I ended up adding a Cartech (of Corky Bell fame) turbocharger kit which included:
Garrett TO4 turbo - pretty hot for the era
front mount intercooler w/ducting
rising rate fuel pressure regulator
upgraded hi flow fuel pump
bigger primary fuel injectors out of a TII
3" mandrel bent downpipe
column mounted boost gauge
and to which I added:
an HKS cat back exhaust system
and a Centerforce dual friction clutch.

The car as it was with 94,000 miles (on the original motor!)
when I sold it in October of 1997.

I typically ran 7psi but with the adjustable wastegate I could crank it up to 10psi which supposedly was good for 300Hp. Not bad for a car which started out with only 146hp! It was, too say the least, a REAL sleeper that some would even go so far as to consider a "chick car," that is, until a brief ride as a passenger would have them peeling their eyeballs off the back of their skull. The only item on the outside that foretold of what was under the hood was a black "Turbo" insignia from an old Porsche 911.
